Thermal Announce New EP, Plaster Girl
Toronto-based band Thermal are releasing their debut EP, Plaster Girl, on the 22nd of November via Dalliance Recordings. A thrilling, five-track refresh on 90s guitar music, the EP collects the band's output to date, breathlessly documenting coming of age themes.
As the duo of Lauren and Josh, they recorded their first two singles (‘Silver’ and ‘Peachy’) with production help from Dylan Frankland (F*cked Up, Tallies) before evolving Thermal into a fully-fledged band with the addition of Fox Atticus Martindale (guitar), Nate Burley (bass) and Adam LaFramboise (drums). This line-up completed the EP, recording the tracks ‘Groupie’, ‘18’ and ‘Plaster Girl’ with in-demand producer Matthew Tomasi (Ethel Cain, Nicole Dollanganger) at The Concrete Smile studio in Toronto.
Best known as one half of the electronic pop duo Prince Innocence (as well as having been in post-punk outfit Little Girls [Captured Tracks / Mexican Summer]), Josh’s most recent work has been via his solo outlet, Prince Josh (recently releasing his second album, Moth).
Meanwhile Lauren's background is in graphic design, working with esteemed artists such as Feist, Charlotte Cardin and Olivia Rodrigo, helping to explain Thermal’s strong visual identity; “It’s important to me that the band be introduced to the world with a pre-existing visual identity to help convey our sound,” Lauren says. Using print media to counteract the immediacy of the digital space, they’ve been dropping limited merch items (t-shirt, zine, stickers) with each release thus far, slow building a rich archive of unique Thermal art-objects.
